you could split the guild into 50/50 and start adding more members from there

yes creating a sister guild is the normal way to expand, with alliances as a feature in Factions you will be able to ally your sister guild to share alliance chat and visit each other guild hall freely.

Not to be rude but why would you want more than 100 members? Having been a GL before ... keeping 30 people happy is a full time job. I would hate to think what 100 plus would be.
